I'd like to buy the world a Coke

Line from a 1970s Coke ad - used to describe films whose ultimate message is a fatuous "hey, we're all the same, why can't we all just get along" - whether it's low comedy like You Don't Mess With The Zohan, or High Art (with a capital "F") like Babel.

The phrase is used more by Simon than Mark; Mark prefers We Are The World - a reference to the USA For Africa charity fundraising record.

Another oft-cited advertising quote is used for when a movie does exactly what it says on the tin.

When Simon was in Beijing for the 2008 Olympics, he revealed that the levels of sponsorship were such that, with Coke as one of the official drinks and Visa the official credit card, the most offensive thing that could be said was not "free Tibet" but "can I use my Mastercard to buy a Pepsi."
